GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough, authorities in Assam's Badarpur successfully conducted a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs, resulting in the seizure of narcotics with an estimated value exceeding Rs 70 lakhs. The operation, spearheaded by Badarpur Police, took place in the Karimganj district of Assam, leading to the apprehension of five individuals involved in the illicit drug trade.

The investigation was prompted by confidential informants who suggested that a group of six individuals, including a woman, were actively engaged in smuggling narcotics in the region. Acting swiftly on this information, law enforcement officers executed the operation, leading to the confiscation of approximately 277.22 grams of heroin from the group.

The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Hassan Ali, Najir Uddin, Babul Hussain Laskar, Lalsanjo, and Tunhaulian Langel. Of these, the first three suspects hail from Badarpur, while the remaining two are residents of Churachandpur in Manipur.

Officials disclosed that the accused were apprehended red-handed while conducting a drug transaction behind a local pan shop situated near a mosque in Badarpur's West Deorail region. The narcotics, which had been transported from Mizoram to Badarpur, were being peddled in the area, highlighting the seriousness of the illicit drug trade in the region.

The successful operation represents a significant blow to drug trafficking in Assam, with law enforcement agencies committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the local community. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, as authorities seek to dismantle any remaining links within the narcotics trade network.

Earlier, a team from the East Guwahati Police District carried out an operation against narcotic substances in the city and was able to seize 192 gms of suspected brown sugar and apprehend a total of three people in connection to the narcotics.

One of the three apprehended by the police team was a woman. Based on intel related to the presence of narcotic substances, a team of personnel from the Hatigaon Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District undertook an operation near Khanka, Parija Path on the evening of Wednesday. The team was able to recover a total of 192 grams of suspected brown sugar, concealed in a total of 15 soap boxes during this operation. 

The identities of the three suspected narcotic peddlers apprehended during this operation are Marium Khatun aged 23 years, her husband Nurul Amin aged 28 years and one Somez Uddin aged 33 years.

All three belong to localities under the jurisdiction of the Chaygaon police station. Hatigaon Police have initiated legal action against the apprehended individuals in regard to the seized narcotics.
